It's Pączki season at Emily's Bakery...hear where these delicious treats got their start
Paczki is a Polish pastry. It's a traditional Polish pastry started in this country, I think when the Polish immigrants came over. It had always been that the Polish women would use up their sweet supplies in their larder before Lent, so it's a pre Lenten item. The areas of the country that have strong Polish populations like Chicago and Detroit have bakeries that have been making Paczki for years and years and years. Here at Emily's we started it, kind of came out of a push by the Retail Bakers Association which is one of our trade groups. I think we've been making them for close to twenty years here at Emily's, I'd have to check with my brother for sure but I think that's close. They're just becoming more and more popular every year.
