Hastings Public Schools Super Advocate for 2014-15! [Hidden Greens Golf Course]
Our final Super Advocate for 2014-15 is a local business!
Hidden Greens Golf Course is owned and run by Al and Brenda Swanson and their children, Jason and Denise. Eleven years ago, Hidden Greens introduced the Big Cup Golf Tourney, and within a couple of years they began donating the profits of that tourney to the Hastings Sharks (our local Special Olympic team that includes youth and adult athletes as well as unified partners).
Since 2007, Hidden Greens has raised and donated over $47,000 to the Hastings Sharks. It is the largest fundraiser for the Sharks. In addition, Hidden Greens has hosted the Sharks' twice-weekly golf practices since 2000 (16 years now!) with no charge to the team and they close the course once a year to host the Special Olympics MN Area 12 golf and bocce ball competition.
Because of their contribution, the Sharks are able to ensure that all athletes are able to participate and have access to the proper sport and safety equipment. The experiences available through Special Olympics are often life-changing to the athletes and their families and the contribution made by Hidden Greens every year has been instrumental in providing these opportunities within our community!
