What is Pyrography? A Brief History of “Writing with Fire”
Pyrography, literally meaning “writing with fire,” wikipedia.org is an ancient art form that has captured human imagination for centuries. As you can see from the eagle artwork above, pyrography artists use special heated tools to burn designs into wood, leaving behind rich brown tones and intricate textures. Believe it or not, people have been wood-burning art since before the 17th century – some say it dates back to ancient cultures and even prehistory wikipedia.org! In fact, in Han Dynasty China, pyrography was charmingly known as “Fire Needle Embroidery” wikipedia.org. This technique traveled through time, gaining popularity in the Victorian era when specialized pyrography tools (think early wood burning pens) made it a fashionable hobby. Today, pyrography has seen a revival as a relaxing, rewarding creative outlet – and now you can try it for yourself in this upcoming workshop.
