Tuesday, August 18, brings a mixed summer forecast to Hastings, with a high near 79°F and clouds gradually giving way to more sunshine. There is a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly after 5 p.m., so see today’s Hastings, MN Weather + On This Date when planning the day.
Tuesday’s LOCAL 10 leans practical: something happening today, civic information worth catching up on, plans for Wednesday and Thursday, and several fall registrations and local hiring opportunities.
A few of today’s items also have deadlines or changing availability. Where possible, the links below take you directly to the responsible organization so you can check the latest details.

TOP 3 TODAY
1. Cones for Cops brings Hastings police and families together Tuesday
Cones for Cops is scheduled for Tuesday, August 18, from 4–6 p.m. at Crème de la Crème in downtown Hastings.
The event brings Crème de la Crème and the Hastings Police Department together for an afternoon built around community conversation, ice cream, treats, photos and family activities.
Families and the general public are welcome. The approved sources do not establish that everything at the event is free, so LOCAL 10 is not making that claim.
Readers can also see Crème de la Crème’s original event post.
2. HCTV posts replay of Hastings’ August 17 City Council meeting
Residents who missed Monday night’s meeting can now watch the August 17 Hastings City Council meeting through HCTV.
Items identified in the meeting material include a data-center moratorium public hearing and second reading, the Water Service Line Replacement Phase 1 contract award and other council business.
For the official record, use the City of Hastings’ agendas, videos and minutes portal. LOCAL 10 is treating those matters as items considered at the meeting and is not inferring final outcomes from the HCTV chapter list alone.
3. Two free Levee Park events fill Wednesday and Thursday
The next two days bring two different reasons to head toward the river.
Storytime in the Park runs Wednesday, August 19, from 10–10:45 a.m. The free program is recommended for ages 7 and younger, and caregivers must accompany children.
Then Music + Market returns Thursday, August 20, from 6–8:30 p.m., with Glycerin Tears, a makers market, food trucks and a kids zone. The event is free and open to all ages.
See the City’s official Levee Park event schedule for both events and rely on City updates for any weather-related changes.
QUICK HITS
4. Rivertown Treasures puts children’s clothing 30% off
Back-to-school shoppers have another local option this week: Rivertown Treasures is advertising 30% off children’s clothing.
The thrift store says most children’s clothing is normally priced at $3 or less. See the current Rivertown Treasures sale post for the source information.
The post uses the phrase “this week,” but an independently established original publication time was not available, so LOCAL 10 is not assigning an ending date to the sale.
5. Hastings ECFE opens fall opportunities for families with young children
Fall planning is underway at Hastings Community Education, where Fall 2026 Early Childhood Family Education options are open for registration ahead of September classes.
ECFE is designed for parents and caregivers participating with babies and young children. Programs are based at Tilden Community Center, 310 River Street.
Families can browse Fall 2026 options, the early-childhood calendar and registration information from the official Hastings Community Education ECFE page.
6. Chamber Golf Classic registration remains available for August 24
The 2026 Hastings Chamber Golf Classic is scheduled for Monday, August 24, from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. at Emerald Greens Golf Course, with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
The Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau event page currently includes a registration option. Registration is required.
The Chamber’s August 17 update said there was room for additional teams, but availability can change. Check the official event page before making plans around an open spot.
7. Fall Dance Team and Mini Raiders registrations carry August dates
Hastings Dance Team Club has 2026 Fall Season registration underway, with Fall Team dates beginning Wednesday, August 19.
The Fall Team is for students in grades 7–12. Families can use the club’s current Fall registration page for the current information.
For younger dancers, Mini Raiders Camp is open to Pre-K through sixth grade, with early-bird pricing available through Friday, August 21. Details are on the Dance Team Club’s current news page.
One important correction: the club says an earlier Fall flyer accidentally contained last year’s performance dates. Do not rely on those dates; the club published a correction to the original flyer.
The current Dance Team update should be used instead.
8. Hastings Bierstube is hiring bartenders, servers and cooks
Hastings Bierstube says it is hiring bartenders, servers and cooks.
The business is asking interested applicants to stop in to apply. See the current Hastings Bierstube hiring post for the first-party notice.
Pay, hours, age requirements and availability by position were not included in the approved information, so applicants should get those details directly from the Bierstube.
9. City seeks referee for Thursday-night sand volleyball
The City of Hastings is looking for a referee for its August/September sand-volleyball league and is advertising $28.50 per match.
Games are scheduled Thursday nights from 6:30–10 p.m., and the City’s athletics information confirms that its Co-Ed Lower 6’s league begins Thursday, August 20.
Interested job seekers can read the City’s referee hiring post and review the City of Hastings athletics page for league information.
The original social post contains a typo in its matches-per-night wording, so LOCAL 10 is intentionally leaving that count out.
10. Hastings’ Austin Eliason earns Class AAA coaching honor
A Hastings coach closes today’s list on a celebratory note.
Hastings Raiders Athletics says Austin Eliason has been named Minnesota’s Class AAA Assistant Track & Field Coach of the Year. The Minnesota Track Coaches Association separately identifies Eliason as its Class AAA honoree.
See the Hastings Raiders Athletics announcement or the corresponding Hastings athletics post.
