Monday, August 17, looks sunny and seasonably warm in Hastings, with highs in the lower 80s and west winds up to 10 mph. Monday evening brings a 40% chance of showers, while a broader NWS outlook says a few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Monday night; see today’s Hastings Weather + On This Date for the planning snapshot.

It’s Monday, August 17, and today’s LOCAL 10 starts with information that could change a trip you were planning to make today — then looks ahead to free events, registrations and a handful of useful local updates.

Several of today’s items are worth acting on sooner rather than later. Others simply give you a head start on the weeks ahead.

1. Hastings Family Service pauses clothing and household donations Monday

Planning a donation run today? Hastings Family Service says its Donation Center will be closed to clothing and household donations on Monday, August 17.

One important distinction: Rivertown Treasures remains open for shopping during regular business hours. The pause applies specifically to clothing and household donations.

If a bag or box is already sitting by the door, this is the item to know before heading over.

2. Storytime Wednesday and Music + Market Thursday return to Levee Park

Two free events are on the City of Hastings Levee Park schedule this week.

Storytime in the Park is Wednesday, August 19, from 10:00–10:45 AM at Levee Park and is recommended for children ages 7 and under.

Then Music + Market returns Thursday, August 20, from 6:00–8:30 PM, featuring Glycerin Tears along with vendors, food and a Kids Zone.

Both events are free. Because they are outdoors, check the City’s Levee Park events page for any weather-related updates before heading downtown.

3. MUSE offers a free artist talk and bookmark workshop Thursday

MUSE2320 Fiber is hosting artist-in-residence Rivers Qinnan Zhu for a Kasuri & Kogire Bookmark Workshop and artist talk Thursday, August 20, at 6:30 PM.

The workshop is free, but MUSE says preregistration is required.

If fiber art, textile traditions or simply making something with your hands sounds like a good Thursday-night plan, check MUSE2320 Fiber for registration and current space availability.

4. Hastings Community Education opens Fall 2026 registration

Fall planning has begun at Hastings Community Education.

Fall 2026 registration is now open, and residents can browse the current offerings through the Hastings Community Education registration portal before the printed catalog arrives.

Programs serve families, youth and adults, but ages, dates, prices and availability vary by class. The live catalog is the best place to check the details for anything that catches your eye.

5. Emily’s Pop Up Bakery takes an August 16–23 break

Regular customers of Emily’s Pop Up Bakery may want to adjust their plans this week.

Emily’s Pop Up Bakery says it is on break August 16–23 and will not be responding to messages during that time.

The bakery plans to return with activity August 24–29, although specific offerings for those dates have not yet been established in the approved information. For now, consider this the useful part: this is a week off.

6. Rivertown Eye Care’s back-to-school eyewear offer continues through August

Rivertown Eye Care is offering 20% off a complete pair of glasses for eligible students, educators and school-district employees as part of its summer education promotion.

Students must be 12 or older, and a valid current school or district ID is required. The offer cannot be combined with insurance or other discounts.

The social announcement says the student offer ends August 31, while the official website describes the promotion more broadly as running through August. Check the current promotion details before purchasing.

7. Mothr Bakery introduces two new sourdough creations

There are a couple of new additions coming from Mothr Bakery: Sourdough Pancake Mix and Pesto Mozzarella Sourdough Bread.

The Mothr Bakery announcement directs customers to its Hotplate ordering page for ordering and availability.

One date deliberately left out here: the Facebook post describes the products as arriving “this Tuesday,” but the original publication date was not independently established strongly enough to safely convert that wording into an absolute date. Check the live ordering page for current availability.

8. Jan’s School of Dance opens registration ahead of September 8

Jan’s School of Dance says its 46th season begins Tuesday, September 8, and registration is underway.

Programs include recreational, pre-competitive and competitive dance, with eligibility varying by class.

Families interested in the upcoming season can view the registration system for the current class options and availability.

9. Pure Serenity schedules Sturgeon Full Moon Women’s Circle for August 28

Pure Serenity Wellness Center has scheduled a Sturgeon Full Moon Women’s Circle for Friday, August 28, from 6:00–7:00 PM at 202 2nd Street East in downtown Hastings.

The organizer’s current event page lists the cost at $25.

The gathering is presented by Pure Serenity as a spiritual and wellness event for women. Readers interested in participating can check the official event page for registration details.

10. Hastings Hockey looks ahead to an October 9 golf scramble

A fall fundraiser is already taking registrations.

The Hastings Hockey Association Golf Scramble is scheduled for Friday, October 9, at Emerald Greens Golf Course in Hastings.

October is still well ahead, so this is primarily a save-the-date and early-registration item for golfers and Hastings Hockey supporters. The association’s official Golf Scramble page has the current registration information.

If you only click one

For the broadest week-ahead utility, start with the City of Hastings’ Levee Park events page. It covers both of this week’s free park events and is also the appropriate place to look for weather-related updates before attending.
