1. Two Free Levee Park Events Are Planned This Week
The City of Hastings’ Levee Park schedule includes two free community events this week.
Comedy in the Park brings stand-up comedian Jared Sherlock to Levee Park from 6:30–7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 28. The program is recommended for teens and adults.
Music + Market returns from 6–8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30, with Los Rebeldes, artisan vendors, food trucks and a children’s entertainment area. Music + Market is open to all ages.
Admission to both events is free, although food and market purchases are not. Check the City’s event page before attending if severe weather threatens.
2. Hastings Family Service Needs School Supplies by August 11
Hastings Family Service is collecting new school supplies through Tuesday, August 11, for families living in Hastings or students attending school in ISD 200.
Donations may be dropped off Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. or Saturday from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Supplies intended for middle- and high-school students are among the organization’s greatest current needs.
Residents, businesses and community groups can review the requested items before shopping. The most-needed list may change as donations arrive.
3. Hastings Seeks Ideas for the Downtown Depot Parking Lot
The City is seeking community input about the possible redevelopment of the 1.8-acre Depot property in downtown Hastings. The site currently includes a 100-stall parking lot and Depot Park.
An anonymous survey asks residents, downtown visitors and other community stakeholders about how they currently use the property, whether they support redevelopment and which priorities should help guide future decisions.
Residents can learn more and find the survey through the City’s development projects page. The City has not published a survey deadline, so responses should be submitted without assuming a specific closing date.

4. Three Performances of “Matilda” Remain in Hastings
Black Dirt Theater has three remaining performances of “Matilda the Musical” at the Hastings High School Performing Arts Center.
Shows are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, July 30; 7 p.m. Friday, July 31; and 2 p.m. Saturday, August 1. The performances are open to ticket holders.
Online ticket sales end at 5 p.m. on each performance day, and the box office opens one hour before showtime. Check the live ticketing page for current prices and seat availability.
5. Caffeinated Rooster Has Two Hastings Stops This Week

Caffeinated Rooster’s current event schedule lists two Hastings stops this week.
The coffee truck is scheduled to be at Plastic Printers, 741 Spiral Boulevard, from 8 a.m.–1 p.m. Wednesday, July 29. It is also scheduled to serve customers during Music + Market at Levee Park from 6–8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30.
Menu availability may change during service.
6. Hastings National Night Out Returns August 4
Hastings’ community National Night Out gathering is scheduled for 5:30–7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, at Lions Park, 1043 Fifth Street West.
The free public event includes two bounce houses, a complimentary hot-dog dinner, community resource booths and opportunities to meet local public-safety personnel.
Registration for separate neighborhood block parties has closed, but the Lions Park community gathering remains open to the public.
7. Registration Is Open for Joint Retiree Appreciation Day
The Joint Retiree Appreciation Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, at Treasure Island Resort in Welch.
The event is intended for military veterans, retirees and their families from all branches of service. Registration costs $30 per person and closes Friday, August 28.
Walk-ins will not be accepted, and attendance is limited to approximately 500 people. Because registration may close early if capacity is reached, prospective attendees should review the official registration information before the deadline.
8. City Shares Well House No. 9 Feedback and Next Steps
The City of Hastings has published a summary of the July 16 public meeting concerning the proposed Well House No. 9 at Wallin Park.
City staff will study possible design changes, location adjustments and an alternative site before holding another public meeting and bringing the matter to the City Council.
No final design or location decision has been made. The date of the next public meeting has not yet been announced.
9. Impressive Windows Announces New Summer Showroom Hours

Beginning Thursday, July 30, Impressive Windows & Interiors says its showroom and gift shop at 113 Second Street East will be open from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday for the remainder of summer.
Private design consultations remain available by appointment.
Because the company’s website may still display an earlier schedule, customers should use the business’s newer first-party hours announcement when planning a visit.
10. Pure Serenity Offers Monday and Thursday Card Readings

Pure Serenity Wellness Center says Kelly offers in-person card readings every Monday and Thursday from 5:30–7 p.m. at 202 Second Street East in downtown Hastings.
Readings cost $25 and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested customers should review the center’s first-party announcement for the current recurring schedule.
The card-reading schedule appears in the social announcement but is not currently listed on the business’s website event calendar.
