Two things are happening tonight: residents have a chance to learn more about the proposed Pleasant Valley Farms development, and Hastings football opens its season on the road. Farther down the list, there are holiday closures to know about, registrations to consider and several September events already taking shape.
1. Pleasant Valley Farms public meeting is tonight from 5:30–7:30 PM
The City of Hastings and Tradition Development Corp. will hold a public meeting Thursday, September 3, from 5:30–7:30 PM regarding the proposed Pleasant Valley Farms development in Hastings. Residents and other interested members of the public may learn about the proposal, ask questions and provide feedback.
The City currently describes the proposal as roughly 323 single-family lots and 64 attached townhome lots. Because this meeting is happening tonight, residents interested in the project should use the City’s current event information for the latest details.

2. Hastings football opens its season tonight at New Prague
Hastings varsity football opens its 2026 season Thursday, September 3, with a 7:00 PM road game against New Prague at New Prague High School.

3. Riverbend Pet Hospital asks clients to prepare before its Labor Day closure
Riverbend Pet Hospital says it will be closed Monday, September 7, for Labor Day.
Clients who need medication refills or pet food are being encouraged to take care of those needs before the weekend. Riverbend clients and local pet owners can read the hospital’s original Labor Day notice.

4. Rivertown Treasures and Hastings Family Service have Labor Day weekend closures

5. Hastings Community Education is taking Driver’s Ed registrations
Hastings Community Education is directing local families to upcoming Driver’s Education opportunities offered with Safeway Driving School.
The program is for students ages 14½–18 and combines 30 hours of classroom instruction with six hours of behind-the-wheel training. Local classes are offered at Hastings High School.

6. Registration is open for the Hastings Hockey Golf Scramble

7. Spiral’s September checkout round-ups support Hastings scholarships
Spiral Food Co-op says its September Round Up at the Register partner is the Hastings AAUW branch.
The group is seeking support for scholarships for women graduating from Hastings High School. Shoppers who want to participate can round up their purchases at checkout during September.

8. City reminds residents that vaping devices should stay out of trash and recycling
The City of Hastings is reminding residents that vaping devices and e-cigarettes contain batteries that can create fire hazards and should not be handled like ordinary trash or recycling.
Dakota County materials list vaping devices among items accepted at The Recycling Zone in Eagan. Residents looking for disposal information should use Dakota County’s Recycling Zone guidance rather than relying on a social caption alone.

9. Freedom Fest brings music and remembrance to United Heroes League September 11
United Heroes League will host Freedom Fest on Friday, September 11, at its Hastings campus at 15211 Ravenna Trail.
Gates open at 4:00 PM, with live music beginning at 5:00 PM. The lineup includes Basic and Boring, Fistful of Ladies, Pipewrench and Good for Gary. Tickets support United Heroes League’s work with military families.

10. Hastings Fire Foundation’s 85th annual Booya is September 12
The Hastings Fire Foundation will hold its 85th annual Booya on Saturday, September 12, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
According to the City’s current event listing, take-home outdoor sales begin at 10:00 AM, while the full indoor event begins at 11:00 AM. The fundraiser supports local community programs.
