1917 — A Second Training Camp Begins at Fort Snelling
On August 28, 1917, the second of two World War I officers’ training camps began at Fort Snelling. About 1,500 candidates started the camp, where the approaching Minnesota winter and the realities of the war shifted more of the training toward trench tactics. By the camp’s November conclusion, 971 candidates had received commissions.
