1865 — Minnesota Soldiers Turn Down One More Parade
On September 12, 1865, the returning Third Minnesota Veteran Volunteer Infantry Regiment declined St. Paul’s offer of a celebratory parade and banquet after already receiving a grand dinner in Red Wing. The soldiers continued to Fort Snelling, where one of Minnesota’s last Civil War regiments to return home was formally discharged four days later.

1958 — A Tiny Circuit Opens a Very Big Door
On September 12, 1958, Texas Instruments engineer Jack Kilby successfully tested an early integrated circuit made from a small piece of germanium. The prototype showed that multiple electronic components could work together on one semiconductor, helping establish the foundation for the microchips now found in computers, phones, vehicles and countless everyday devices.
