Rec + Art + Police is Hastings Parks & Recreation’s summer outreach series that pairs uniformed police officers with recreation leaders and local artists in a relaxed, pop‑up setting.

On the second and fourth Wednesdays, June through August, 1 – 2 p.m., the team rolls into a different neighborhood park with art supplies, sports gear, free snacks and small giveaways. The idea is simple but powerful: give kids and families a no‑cost afternoon of creative play while letting them meet officers as teammates and mentors rather than first responders. The program is made possible by lead sponsors Country Financial and SC Toys, with added support from the Hastings Lions Club, Hastings Family Service, Hastings Community Education and the Hastings Prescott Arts Council. hastingsmn.gov

The 2025 lineup offers six themed afternoons:

• June 11 – Levee Park: Intro to Breakdancing & Crazy‑Hair Portraits

• June 25 – Sunny Acres Park: Global Games & “Artsy Fireworks” project

• July 9 – Pioneer Park: Live Reptiles & “Message on a Rock” art

• July 23 – Roadside Park: Foam Party & Pipe‑Cleaner Sculptures

• August 6 – Conzemius Park: Obstacle Course & Nature Bouquet

• August 20 – Vermillion Falls Park: Multi‑sport Stations & Open‑choice Art
