Wednesday, August 19, looks like one of the easier August days to plan around in Hastings: mostly sunny with a high near 81°F and a light northwest wind. Tonight turns partly cloudy with a low near 59°F; you can pair today’s LOCAL 10 with Hastings, MN Weather + On This Date for Wednesday, August 19.
Wednesday’s list has a practical end-of-summer feel to it.
There’s help for families getting ready for school, activity at Levee Park today and Thursday, a Friday stop for Minnesota-made foods, and several opportunities to start thinking about fall — whether that means ECFE, dance, music or a new local job.
Here are today’s 10.

1. School-supply appointments remain Thursday and Friday
Hastings Family Service reported remaining school-supply appointment openings for Thursday, August 20, and Friday, August 21. Free school supplies are available for families living in and students attending school in ISD 200.
Families should call Hastings Family Service to register. The organization’s official school-supply page confirms the August 17–21 distribution period and eligibility requirements.
Because appointment availability can change, families who still need a spot will want to check directly with Hastings Family Service rather than assume an opening remains.
2. Storytime today, Music + Market Thursday at Levee Park
Two different reasons to head toward the riverfront are on the City of Hastings Levee Park calendar.
Storytime in the Park runs Wednesday, August 19, from 10:00–10:45 AM and is recommended for children age 7 and younger with caregivers. Because today’s LOCAL 10 is scheduled to publish at 10:00 AM, there’s very little advance notice for this one.
Then on Thursday, August 20, from 6:00–8:30 PM, Music + Market returns with Glycerin Tears, makers, food trucks and a Kids Zone. The City lists Thursday’s event as free and open to all ages.
3. Coborn’s hosts a Minnesota-made sampling event Friday
Coborn’s Hastings is inviting shoppers to a Minnesota local sampling event on Friday, August 21, from 3:00–6:00 PM.
The event will highlight Minnesota-made products available at the Hastings store.
That’s the useful core of the announcement for now: Coborn’s has not provided a separate current event page with additional verified details, so check its first-party post for the source announcement.

4. Free MUSE2320 bookmark workshop brings an Anderson Center artist to Hastings
MUSE2320 Fiber Co. will host artist Rivers Qinnan Zhu for an artist talk and Kasuri & Kogire bookmark workshop on Thursday, August 20, at 6:30 PM.
The event is listed at $0, but pre-registration is required. It’s aimed at people interested in fiber and textile arts and connects a visiting Anderson Center artist with a downtown Hastings workshop.
5. Fall ECFE opportunities are open through Hastings Community Education
Parents and caregivers looking ahead to September can browse Fall 2026 ECFE options through Hastings Community Education.
The programs are for parents and caregivers with babies and young children and are based at Tilden Community Center in Hastings.
Individual schedules and fees vary, so families should use the official ECFE page to choose a class and see its registration details.
6. Jan’s School of Dance plans an August 24 open house
Jan’s School of Dance will hold an open house on Monday, August 24, from 5:00–6:00 PM at 2610 Industrial Court in Hastings.
Current and prospective dance families can meet instructors, ask questions, order shoes and shop merchandise. See Jan’s first-party announcement for the open house details.
The post also mentions a Back to Dance Bash later that evening, but its intended audience is not clear enough for LOCAL 10 to characterize that portion as a general public event.
7. 2nd Street Depot is hiring a fill-in DJ and karaoke host
2nd Street Depot Bar & Grill is looking for a part-time fill-in DJ and karaoke host.
The Hastings business says it wants someone reliable, energetic and comfortable entertaining a crowd, with experience preferred. Interested applicants are asked to inquire in person.
The announcement does not include wage information, expected hours or a detailed schedule.
8. Spiral Food Co-op has BOGO deals through September 1
Spiral Food Co-op says its newest round of buy-one-get-one-free Co-op Deals runs from August 18 through September 1.
The deals are available to shoppers whether or not they are co-op members.
One timing note matters here: the original post also contained Tuesday-only promotions. Those expired on Tuesday, August 18, so today’s LOCAL 10 is carrying forward only the multi-day BOGO offer.
9. Sturgeon Full Moon Women’s Circle is August 28 downtown
Pure Serenity Wellness Center will host its Sturgeon Full Moon Women’s Circle on Friday, August 28, from 6:00–7:00 PM at 202 2nd Street East in downtown Hastings.
The event is for women registering for the circle, and the current event page lists registration at $25 per person.
Registration and additional event information are available directly through Pure Serenity.
10. River Valley Band is recruiting musicians for fall
River Valley Band is inviting musicians interested in joining the Hastings-area ensemble to get in touch before its first rehearsal on Tuesday, September 15.
The group’s announcement also lists upcoming performances beginning with a Veterans Day concert on November 8.
The post does not provide the rehearsal location or specific age and experience requirements, so interested musicians should contact River Valley Band for those details rather than simply showing up.
